Statistická ročenka Moravskoslezského kraje 2002

Preface

PREFACE

This is the second year already, in which unified regional statistical yearbooks produced by the Regional Offices of the Czech Statistical Office (CZSO) are presented to the public. The contents of the yearbooks follow up the nationwide statistical yearbook prepared by the CZSO headquarters. The data released refer to the period of 1999 – 2001 in general. The time series of some indicators start in the year 1990, though. Included in addition to the information on regions are available data broken down by the districts of the regions and selected data on cities and towns. All of the data are consistently converted to conform to the valid regional classification CZ-NUTS3 (14 regions).

The regional yearbooks do not differ in their contents a great deal from the ones published the previous year. Some adjustments were made to add data from new ad hoc surveys or delete those produced by terminated surveys and published already. The basic data sources the yearbooks drew on were the ones of the Czech Statistical Office. Used were also data available at other departments such as the Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs of the CR, the Ministry of the Interior of the CR, the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports of the CR (the Institute of Information on Education), and the Ministry of Health of the CR (the Institute of Health Information and Statistics) in particular. A considerable portion of the published data is taken over from the regional databases KROK (regions and districts) and MOS (towns and villages).

Due to the August floods, which hit the CZSO building in Prague 8 – Karlín heavily, some data needed for the processing were delayed, which was why the regional yearbooks were brought out later than planned. The printing ensured completely last year by the CZSO Printing Unit had to be solved in an alternative way, too. Despite this delay, however, we believe that the regional yearbooks will become a sought-after information source.

We want to say a word of thanks to all the authors and colleagues for their efforts and time they devoted to prepare this publication and especially to the Ministry of Regional Development of the CR, which ensured the printing of the yearbooks.
